What happened to the Terminator review? Did they simply not film it? It was so funny listening to it -- the best Kermodean rant in a while -- but I badly wanted to see him go, "McGee!" and reenact Christian Bale's moment of clarity.

Kermode's review of Rambo 4 sounded rather like a lecture to me, and he lifted Haneke's arguments about viewer manipulation and the exploitative use of onscreen violence wholesale. I don't particularly dislike the guy, I just think he overstepped the line both in his treatment of Haneke's film and the man himself (a rather more substantial artist than the journeyman Friedkin, btw)....

Kermode criticized the fact that Funny Games takes the form of a lecture as opposed to a film, and while I disagree and love the film, I see his point. It's not the fact that it criticizes film violence in and of itself. He has praised films on that subject before like A Clockwork Orange and The Last House on the Left (original).

He also has admired Haneke's work in the past, naming Cache his movie of the week upon its UK release, so don't take his jokes about him too seriously.
