I'm sorry. He seems like a really nice guy (if not a firecracker) but I think this
discussion fails to penetrate to any of what makes this symphony unique. The combination of melodic and profoundly anti-melodic elements that seem to prefigure Stravinsky etc. all of that is glossed over. I just...
