New York's rocker Kelly Buchanan's has led life that's anything but ordinary. Leaving home at age 13, Kelly went from boarding school, to living in a motel, to attending public schools in France and Argentina. At age 17 she was living (and volunteering) in a squatter town in Guayaquil, Ecuador. She reunited with her family in the states at 18, just in time to watch her grade school peers graduate from high school.
Kelly's musical endeavors have proven equally adventurous. She has written and recorded three albums, financed by tours she booked herself and donations from fans she made along the way. Her 2005 release, "Bastard Daughter," earned her place on the map when it reached the top 20 in CMJ's radio charts and gained national distribution, as songs from the album aired on numerous TV shows and gained her tours opening for artists such as Mike Doughty, Martha Wainwright, and The Whigs. She has nearly completed her fourth full-length album, on which she collaborated of some of New York's finest artists, including Tracy Bonham and members of Fountains of Wayne.
