Synthetic phonics is absolutely the best was to teach a child to read. One of the very best books for teaching kindergartners or younger is "An Ant - Learn to Read." It has all the basics plus really great stories with color illustrations. Kind of like a comic book, but much better!

It is better to teach a child to sound out each letter, ie, c-a-t. If you make them memorize the sound for "at" without teaching the short A sound and the T sound, it's not really phonics. If that is how you teach, then you will also have to make your child memorize many more two letter combinati...

Really cute!
"An Ant - Learn to Read" is really good for teaching kids to sound out words. videos are fun, but we need books too! "An Ant - Learn to Read" is mostly stories. It's probably perfect for 4 or 5-year-olds, but you could definately use just the included flash cards for younger kids.
