Osho - Spiritual People are Spiritless Osho had a spiritual community. But then he was very critical about spiritual people as well. Not that he did not love them but he spoke the truth whenever he went, he spoke the truth, regardless of how it was going to affect him.
When someone asked him the question, "why are spiritual people poor?", He said, "the answer is very simple". Because they are spiritual people. They are not material people. That's why they are poor. The material people are not poor. The material people are not poor because they care for matter. The spiritual people only care for the spirit. In the spirit doesn't have any matter in it.
Spiritual people are really the spiritless people.
And it is true, because they space out, they don't have any motivation in life. So that makes one think about the characteristics of spiritual people in general. They are indeed "spiritless" in the sense that they have no motivation because they are resigned to whatever is happening and they are not after becoming rich or becoming more comfortable in the material world.
So in that sense they are spiritless people. There is another way of looking at it. The spirit is not all that bad. Spirit is being very powerful. Being spiritual does not necessarily mean that you should be poor.
A true spiritual person, in my opinion, is someone who has developed omniscience and omnipotence if not omnipresence as well.
A spiritual person should be more successful than a material person. And that's what has to happen.
Now look at Patanjali's Yoga Sutras which I have been teaching recently in the United States. There is a section called "Supernormal Powers": how you can acquire supernormal powers. And he teaches a special meditation called samyama which is a combination of different types of concentration which are called darana, dyana and samadhi. And when you combine these three, you can get into what is called samyama.
When Dharana, Dyan and Samadhi are practiced together, it is called Samyama. You can do a Samyama on wealth and get enough wealth that you want or enough knowledge that you want or enough understanding of somebody else's mind. All these supernormal powers are possible when you are a spiritual person.
So, to say that a spiritual person has to be poor need not necessarily be true. It can be the other way around because a spiritual person can really be a powerful and also a material person as well. This is what spiritual people have to understand.

In that day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the seaside. And great crowds were gathered to Him, so that He went into a boat and sat. And all the crowd stood on the shore. And He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell by the wayside, and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth. And they sprang up immediately, because they had no deepness of earth. And the sun rising, they were scorched, and because they had no root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns. And the thorns sprung up and choked them. And some fell on the good ground and yielded fruit, indeed one a hundredfold, and one sixty, and one thirty. He who has ears to hear, let him hear. And the disciples said to Him, Why do You speak to them in parables? He answered and said to them, Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of Heaven, but it is not given to them. For whoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance. But whoever does not have, from him shall be taken away even that which he has. Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not; nor do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah which said, "By hearing you shall hear and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see and shall not perceive; for this people's heart has become gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes, lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them." But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear. For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them; and to hear what you hear, and have not heard them. Therefore hear the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the Word of the kingdom and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and catches away that which was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown by the wayside. But that which was sown on the stony places is this: he who hears the Word and immediately receives it with joy. But he has no root in himself, and is temporary. For when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the Word, he immediately stumbles. And that sown into the thorns is this: he who hears the Word; and the anxiety of this world, and the deceit of riches, choke the Word, and he becomes unfruitful. But that sown on the good ground is this: he who hears the Word and understands; who also bears fruit and produces one truly a hundredfold; and one sixty; and one thirty. (Mat 13:1-23)
