1. Greenhouse effect:
Farming contributes more to climate change than the whole transportation system (cars, planes etc.). Main factors are methane which is mostly emitted by "dairy" and "beef" cows, and nitrous oxide from the manure being a waste product of factory farming. With our excessive meat and dairy consumption since the last 6 decades we are devouring the life supporting climate of our planet.
2. World hunger:
Approx. 40% of the world´s crop harvest is used as animal feed to sate the meat and dairy-hunger of the wealthy. Food that is badly needed in regions of hunger. It takes an average of 7 calories of crop to produce 1 animal calory (meat, milk, eggs), while on the other hand it only takes 1 calory from crop to produce 1 calory in bread.
3. Ethical:
"The day may come, when the rest of the animal creation may acquire those rights which never could have been withholden from them but by the hand of tyranny. The French have already discovered that the blackness of skin is no reason why a human being should be abandoned without redress to the caprice of a tormentor. It may come one day to be recognized, that the number of legs, the villosity of the skin, or the termination of the os sacrum, are reasons equally insufficient for abandoning a sensitive being to the same fate. What else is it that should trace the insuperable line? Is it the faculty of reason, or perhaps, the faculty for discourse? But a full-grown horse or dog is beyond comparison a more rational, as well as more conversable animal, than an infant of a day or a week or even a month old. Ich hab mir grad deinen Kanal genauer unter die Lupe genommen und muß zugeben, er ist wirklich sehr interessant und auch inspirierend. Du magst Indien und Schwarzweissfilme, richtig? Das hat echt Stil :)
Ich bin auch seit vielen Jahren Vegetarier, naja eigentlich schon fast etwas mehr, ich bezeichne es gerne immer als "Zwischenwelt" zwischen Vegetarier und Veganer.
Hmm...naja, ich wünsch dir erst mal einen schönen Abend, ich hoffe mal ich hör bald wieder was von dir wenn du mal wieder Zeit hast.
Wow, ich hab mir grad nebenher das U2 Karaoke Video von deiner Favouritenliste angehört, phantastisch dieser Song, den kenn ich noch aus meiner Kindheit, ein absoluter Klassiker, seeeehr guter Geschmack ;)
