Toccata, composed by me as a contemporary test subject. I was influenced by Prokofiev's Toccata and wanted to make my own one. The fast runs are influenced by Shostakovich's Sonata no. 1.

Not many of you know I can play the violin, but only a little bit. Like a novice...
Also, not many of you know that I compose music myself. So I decided to make a Composition blog. See this link:

I can't remember how I found this piece. Probably when I was searching for Glenn Gould, I stumbled on it. I like the mathematical straightness of this piece. It's really difficult to play it because each finger is doing different things. Sometimes your right hand goes up while your left hand does something entirely different. Some phrases are going so far that you need to prepare yourself really hard to get it played without mistakes. Every time I play this my brain is feeling like it's studying algebra.
I surfed the internet about this piece and think Andras Schiff has the best performance of this piece.

Gilels inspired me on this. I liked how he got really angry in the last part of the piece. The first part should be like on a funeral and at the same time spooky.
I played a bit with the chords, the first time I played the chord normally and in the second part I used a D sharp to give a sky high climax.
Gilels gives an accent to his upper melody instead of playing it evenly, which makes the melody come out much better. The last part should be played faster to give it an angry vibe.
I'm going to play this piece on a seminar, and one of our Belgian ministers of Economy (Vincent Van Quickenborne) is going to watch too. Funny, my hobby is macro-economics. I should play this by heart, but I'm afraid I'll get a black out.
After seeing this, I need to give a bit more spectacle by making bigger gestures to give the audience much more to eye candy.

About 10 years ago I heard a nice piece of jazz piano solo on the radio and I recalled it was from Bill Evans.
I thought maybe I should bring this splendid composer to the public. Too bad he didn't write many solo pieces in his life. This album "Alone" is actually the only solo album, I could find (if somebody else can correct me on this).
Luckily it contains one of the most impressive arrangements of the song from the movie An American Dream ever made. Let me play it for you.

Thank you!
Bonne continuation.
Bien cordialement.

pls suscribe my channel too ^^
I'm transcribing too, you can find links to my work on my profile. I've uploaded sheets to Hiromi's Tom&Jerry Show, I've got Rhytm, Brain Training, Bern Baby Bern, Summer Rain (full band version) and Gackts Regret.
Keep up your work, there are very few people on earth gifted with such a fine pitch & piano skills.
Regards, Andrew
