About Me:
I was born in France and moved to Canada when I was about five years old. I traveled a lot as a kid back and forth between Europe and North America and got exposed to allot of different cultures and my interest in music became vast and unlimited. I began writing songs when I was sixteen, short raps basically and a cappella vocal lines. Then I eventually picked up a guitar and began teaching myself so that I could write more material. I sang in Gospel choirs and loved listening to Artist's like Elton John, Aretha Franklin, George Michael, Prince and Freddie Mercury to name a few. I loved Soul and R & B and I wanted to emulate all my favorite artist's and music.
A S I B E C A M E
I wanted to write songs but didn't want to become another typecast ballad writer. I wanted to have soul but didn't want to become just another rhythm and blues artist or jazz crooner. I wanted to be it all, that all in the face of one. I wanted to become a songwriter that could integrate all the elements of my personality in a unique way. So I discovered my unique sound and style as I am.
I was offered a recording contract from Sound Street Records in Toronto 2005 and eventually turned it down because they wanted me to change my name and brand me in a specific way which I didn't agree with. I became very adamant to holding on to my identity. I got my first big break in 2006 when I got a chance to perform live on CHRY 105.5fm radio and I have been a regular on their radio network since. I have been a featured spotlight artist on the OMNI cable television network and my music has also aired on Z103.5fm. I also began playing various venues around Toronto such as six degrees night club, Lula Lounge, Gladstone Hotel and many others.
A S I M
When I was ready to create my first professional EP I came up with 'AS I M' which is drawn straight out of my name. And I realized quickly that what I was actually writing about and expressing in my songs was identity, peoples identities, my own identity and how I relate to the world. Thus I created this album with a new found image and sound which is the most accurate reflection of myself as an artist. I wanted to take a chance and be true to my instincts. It wasn't just about the music but about forming an idea, an idea which began with a simple desire to write great songs. This is me as I am.
