I run Kasia's Ark Bird Rescue from my home in New Orleans. I take in orphaned and injured birds, nurse them back to health and release them or find them good forever homes. Most of my pets are chickens and I bring one or two with me so special events to teach people about how wonderful chickens, ducks and birds are. I started a program called Pet Care Education with the Humane Society of Louisiana where 5 or 6 voluteers bring a pet and talk about its proper care. I always bring a duck, chicken and sometimes my goose and birds. The chickens are always a huge hit. I am trying to teach people that buying ducklings and chicks for Easter is a bad idea, as most of them end up dying from the wrong diet, or hurt by a dog or cat, and some end up dumped in parks. This year I was on a talk show, Louisiana Newsmaker, with a duck that was dumped at a park and attacked by a dog, and her top half of her bill is missing. I also had on the show 5 baby chickens that were dyed purple and then dumped at a local park. They are now all grown up and living at the no kill sanctuary that the Humane Society of Louisiana has. I love all my feathered babies and they are all spoiled rotten. I am also a cruelty investigator for the Humane Society of Louisiana.
