Welcome to the official web site of Kamil Al-Hinai also known as Kay in the fashion industry and to close friends. Born and raised 23 years of his life in the Sultanate of Oman Kamil never thought he would be working as a model in Europe. Coming from a very influential family Kamil has been known for being the black sheep of the family for daring to be different and outspoken about his views, something that doesnt really go well with Middle Eastern culture. Kamil started his career in journalism as a part time job during his high school period working for Radio Sultanate of Oman as a presenter for the then programme called Teen Spirit. After finishing high school Kamil got a sponsorship from the Omani government to study travel and tourism which he worked in for the next 6 years to come. It was only when model-turned-choreographer Mark Robinson arrived in Oman and was looking for Omani models to take part in the Fashion Fusion fashion show that a friend recommended Kamil to him. Our first meeting was really embarrassing says Kamil, I had no idea who he was at the time and I went up to his hotel room to meet him, I knocked on his door and he opened and I asked are you Mark Robinson? He gave me a funny look (like you dont know who I am kind of look) and in my mind I was thinking to my self god Kamil you have ruined it, its like Madonna opening the door and me asking her excuse me are you Madonna? But the meeting went well and after that show I got asked to do a few shows in Dubai some included shows for Calvin Klein, Armani and a few other designers. In 2001 Kamil moved to Frankfurt, Germany were he took up the language, and was mentored by former top model of Hermes Astrid Bittner-Utsch on the fashion industry in Europe. In Germany Kamil got to meet and socialise with different people from the fashion and entertainment industry and befriended new up-and-coming designer Ishmael Mukadam who Kamil modelled for and helped with one of his collections. Kamil also managed to work with various photographers including photographer Antonio Rodriguez as well as being a member of jury for the Mr and Ms Hessen contest of which the winners go to represent Germany in the Mr and Miss World contest. After almost 4 years of living in Germany Kamil decided to move to London and take up a degree course in Business Administration. Since moving to London Kamil has been in various add campaigns of which some could be seen in the carriages in the tube stations such as Shaadi.com, add campaigns for Vaseline skin care and the Jaguar gorgeous commercial as well as appearing on different magazines and having modelled for various designers at London Alternative Fashion Week. Till today Kamil is the only model from Oman to be working as a professional model, something which makes him stand out from the rest when he goes back home. When asked are you proud Kamil replies ; yes I am very proud to have made it this far, I still have so much that I want and would like to achieve, I am not getting any younger and it is a very competitive industry, so I am just happy to still be in it for now.
