In the chest at the barbas dog shrine thingy, there was a ebony armor, did you missed it? It got a 73 armor rating, seemed to look pretty cool and was expensive. You could give it to your mule so she won't die so fast anymore.

I'm not sure but I think the problem with long range shots in skyrim is that you don't have to aim above the target like you would normally do to include the gravity on the arrow.
But it seems to be simplified here, the arrow will fly the correct path whatever the range and hit where the crosshai...

You even got five potions to cure diseases for that.

I reach the College of Winterhold, but the gatekeeper pulls my leg around for the day, so I practice the basket-on-head technique.
The minus 25% in melee comes from the disease rockjoint. You probably got infected by a rat in some dungeon. I think you can get it healed at a temple.
