I haven't written off the future yet, but I don't see things getting better for the world until a lot of people in the West are uncomfortable enough to do something about it. Right now we're still far too well off with the status quo to act.

I for one think that you yanks should decide law by popular vote. Sure equal rights may take a hit but who cares right? As long as more than half of your country wants to keep a minority down, shouldn't that minority at least thank you for allowing them to still live in your vibrant free culture?
