About Me:
Hometown:
orig. Toronto, now Nova Scotia & California
Country:
United States
Occupation:
Retired Herbalist, homeopath, Immunoglobulin G allergy diagnostician (home business). Presently a writer of fiction & vegan non-fiction.
Schools:
University of Toronto
Interests:
Holistic & medical research. Video taping my beloved animals. Photography (again, of my animals, and of anyone's children). Cooking from scratch (a lost art). Dressing in elegant 18th century style clothing. Reading about constitutional homeopathy, vegetarianism, mindfulness meditattion, excercise & fitness, self improvement, history of medicine, plagues throughout history, holistic cancer prevention, raising children vegan, environmental illness, herbology & herbalism, obscure diseases, digestive wellness, using the subconscious, using food as medicine & living the simple life.
Movies:
I rarely watch tv & have difficulty sitting through a movie. I watched House for a couple of seasons & then went onto www.politedissent.com & researched the obscure diseases mentioned on the show. Winter fun when you're cooped up inside. I don't think I watch more than 1 hour of tv a month, and it's usually a few minutes of the weather channel. Favorite movies (you can tell it's been a long time since I've been impressed by movie): Tombstone (Val Kilmer was unbelievable). Pride & Prejudice (Colin Firth was the quintessential Mr Darcy, and I named Dar after him, and Bumbie, whose name is actually Lizzy Bumbalina, after Miss Lizzy Bennett)Little Women - I loved Susan Sarandon as Marmee, and the ambiance is always soothing. There was a charming 1970's version with Susan Dey & Meridith Baxter worth finding. Shawshank Redemption - took me years to watch a "prison movie" and was profoundly affected by this masterpiece. The Family Man - I dunno. I'm a lifelong bachelor(ette) & keep thinking the single life looked like a lot of fun. Sophie's Choice - A tour de force, as close a rendition to a book as I've ever seen. Meryl Streep's masterpiece. Bramwell (the series) - remarkable British series about Victorian England & the challenges of a female physician. Cold Mountain - unbelievable civil war scenes, shows you why this was considered the bloodiest war in history, as it was fought eye to eye with bayonets & rifles. Healing Cancer from Inside Out - Mike Anderson's video will change your life, if you watch it.
Music:
Hawai'ian Slack Key Guitar. Classical chamber music. Occasionally soft jazz. Soft rock from the 70's when I'm jogging. Most of the time I live in silence because I'm always talking to the animals or thinking.
Books:
I don't read fiction. Portraits of Homoepathic Medicines (3 volumes). Homeopathic Psychology. Healing with Whole Foods. The Diet Cure. Focusing. The Highly Sensitive Person. anything by Thich Nhat Hanh. anything by Pema Chodron. anything by Dr. Sherry Rogers. Your Body's Many Cries for Water. anything by Christina Perilla. Natural Healing with Herbs. Live in the Balance. anything dealing with Macrobiotics. anything by Neal Barnard. The Peaceful Warrier.
