My mother left Cuba on Feb 11, 1962 with my two younger brothers and myself in search of freedom. My father was killed in June 22, 1958; he was a military pilot and while on duty, communist-Castro troops shot his plane down, leaving my mom a widow with two very young children, and less than one month pregant. Her quest for freedom started when my youngest brother was born and soon after that, USA welcomed us and made Miami our home. No family in the USA, but freedom and peace of mind for our mother to raise us without fear.
On Feb 11, 2012, my brothers and I had a reunion to celebrate it. Our mom is no longer with us; but left us with a legacy of courage, dedication and love....and she is now with our dad, guiding my brothers and I from above. FOR MIMA.....I LOVE YOU.
Mi madre, junto con mis dos hermanos salimos de Cuba hacia Miami el 11de Feb 1962 en busca de libertad. Mi padre era piloto militar y su avion fue derribado por tropas comunistas, dejando a mi madre viuda con dos peques, y con menos de un mes de embarazo de mi hermano menor. La busqueda de ella por libertad comenzo cuando nacio mi hermano menor, y poco despues, los Estados Unidos nos dieron la bienvenida como nuestra nueva casa. No teniamos familia en USA, pero mi madre encontro la libertad y la paz que necesitaba para poder seguir adelante y criarnos sin temor. El 11 de Feb 2012, mis hermanos y yo nos reunimos para celebrar este medio siglo. Mima ya no esta con nosotros pero dejo un legado de valor y corage, dedicacion y amor....y ahora esta reunida con Papita y desde el cielo ellos juntos nos guian a mis hermanos y a mi. POR MIMA ...TE QUIERO.

Filmed on 20APR2008 at D/FW International Airport. Those of us in the DFW Airport Community are blessed to host the daily flight that brings Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen home from Iraq and Afghanistan so that they may continue on home for some well deserved vacation.
