JW Cortes is a NYC based Actor - Writer with an incredible story to tell.

From the streets of Sunset Park to the Sands of Iraq and now to the Movie Screens around the world - JW delivers a penetrating truthfulness to his work and a unmistakable realism to his message.

In March of 2003, as a U.S. Marine, he found himself in the small southern town of Nasiriyah, Iraq. It was there that he decided to pursue his unfulfilled childhood dreams of becoming a multi-dimensional performer.

JW made his first television appearance on the CBS show Nueva Estrella Awards a bilingual American Idol themed show without the 'Simon.' The year 2007 marked his big-screen debut during the 2007 HBO NY Latino Film Festival as 'Magic' -- a ruthless narcotics dealing father in the Independent Feature Film "44." He also appeared in the film "We Own The Night" with Joaquin Phoenix and Eva Mendes, as well as in the successful print, radio & television campaign for the 10th anniversary of the HBO NY Latino Film Festival.

We'll continue to see more of JW in the following upcoming films: "The Last Airbender" directed by M. Night Shyamalan, "A Kiss of Chaos" along side CSI: Miami's Adam Rodriguez, "As Good As Dead" opposite of Cary Elwes and "Anima Sola" with 'As The World Turns' Lauren Martin.

An avid activist, JW gives back to his community by participating in Domestic Violence forums, where he is often presented as a trainer or guest speaker. Along with the Bronx based theater company Pregones, they spread the voice of reason & hope through a play called The Phone Call, an interactive forum theater performance where the audience determines the outcome.
