Before Brokeback Mountain, before Beautiful Thing, before alllllll the other gay, gay teen, and "coming out" genre films that followed it, there was You Are Not Alone. You Are Not Alone was made by acclaimed Danish director Lasse Nielsen in 1978. This film was essentially the test-film in cinema history to gauge whether there was a market for coming-of-age films that dealt with being a gay teen in society. Many of you have asked me where you can buy the movie. It's available on amazon.com here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000... In 2006, the films distributor went back to the original 1978 film negative, remastered it digitally, redid all the subtitles to make them as accurate as possible, and released this new DVD. The remastered 2006 DVD that I pulled these scenes from, hasn't been uploaded anywhere online. You can find bits and pieces from the 1978 VHS copy on YouTube and different torrent sites, but to see the full thing, you have to order it on amazon. It's a good buy though. The film has an 8 out of 10 star rating on IMDB. Politics aside, it's a surprisingly touching film.
