About this user

"Juneteenth" dates back to June 19, 1865. Once the Confederates surrendered on April 9, 1865 federal troops fanned across the country on horseback spreading the word that slavery was abolished. At each location there was a celebration. "Liberation Day", "Victory Day", "Freedom Day" illustrate the theme of freedom. When the troops got to Galveston, TX on June 19th "Juneteenth" became the term meaning to recognize how America continues to work on ending legalized slavery even now in the 21st century.
