Júlia Tygel is a young Brazilian pianist and composer. She began her piano practice at 7 years old, graduated in Music/Composition at the State University of Campinas, where she also received a Master degree in Ethnomusicology. Now she does her PhD at São Paulo University in Music and is at the City University of New York as a visiting research scholar with a Fulbright grant. In 2011 she launched her 1st. CD "Júlia Tygel -- Entremeados", with financial support of the prefecture of her home town. It presents her arrangements for Brazilian songs, including composers like Tom Jobim, Chico Buarque and Edu Lobo, and compositions for piano and cello duo, produced by Benjamim Taubkin (Brazil). Her compositions and arrangements mix the influences of a classical musical education with the rich Brazilian popular music. She has been playing this repertory at important rooms dedicated to instrumental music in São Paulo, where she is being recognized as a talented musician of her generation.
