About this user
Judith Weston is the author of two books: DIRECTING ACTORS, and THE FILM DIRECTOR'S INTUITION, both Amazon best-sellers, loved by directors, actors, writers and other film professionals around the world.
Judith teaches workshops for directors and for actors at her studio in Los Angeles (information about upcoming workshops is available on the website www.judithweston.com) and has taught internationally (Europe, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa) and once every year in New York City. Her students include winners and nominees of Academy Awards, Emmys, and film festivals. (Six of her directing students had films in Dramatic Competition or New Frontier at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival; another is nominated for an Academy Award in the category Best Foreign Language Film; still another of her directing students won a 2010 Grammy for Best Music Video Award.)
I am very excited about offering these video clips, and hope they will be helpful to directors, actors, writers, and anyone who may have wondered whether the techniques of actors and filmmakers might be useful in their everyday business and personal lives.
But I want to add a word of caution - you can't learn how to direct, or to act, by watching a video or reading a book. You have to practice - film is a collaborative medium, and you have to try out any new techniques in a safe environment. All directors should take acting class (I teach one called Acting for Directors, but there are lots of other acting teachers too). All actors should take acting class. And directors and actors should practice working together - perhaps in a class (mine is called the Actor-Director Lab), or on your own.
Telling stories is necessary to life. Keep faith in yourselves and the power of storytelling.
