About Me:
Let me start by telling you a bit about myself and what I`m doing here!
I am a ( very ) amateur singer and composer. I don`t play very well and I will not win any awards for my singing abilities either. But what I do have is ideas! And when I get one, I have to do my best to get that idea out of my head and make it a reality!
I don`t have a recording studio or even a soundproof enviroment to record in.
I don`t own any fancy equipment, just a keyboard, a microphone and a guitar, some relatively cheap computer software and an imagination. So in short, I make music on a shoe string budget.
I have mucked around with music nearly my whole life. I have played some basic keyboard parts and sung backing vocals in a couple of short lived bands in the late eighties. And I fronted a short lived rock and blues cover band in the early nineties. If it taught me anything, it is an appreciation of music that goes beyond just that which you hear in the charts. I was a child of the "new romantic" era and loved the likes of Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Gary Numan, Visage, Ultravox and so on. If it didn`t have synths then I didn`t want to know back then. If it didn`t chart then again I didn`t want to know!
That all changed when I became a singer in a rock and blues cover band. I started to listen to and perform music that I never heard of and would never have listened to before. I learned to appreciate a much wider world of rock and metal as well as the electronic music of my youth. Unfortunately that was also short lived due to in-fighting amongst certain band members and the fact that my personal life was in turmoil at the time.
Over the years that followed, I really didn`t do much musically except broaden my listening horizons to anything that had atmosphere and emotion. I found songs that were personal and bared the soul of the performer far more satisfying than anything that seemed to be in the pop charts. The mainstream had become awash with production line acts performing production line music for mass consumption by an increasingly shallow and material world.
As I started to go out to see more "up and coming" bands at local gigs, I found myself being inspired by the wealth of talent that was out there and I could feel the seeds of musical ideas growing in my mind again. At this time the only thing I was doing was making remixes of some of my favourite artists for my own amusement.
Then a work colleague handed me a CD of a band her husband was playing in. She told me to listen to it and tell her what I thought of it. It was by a band called " NOISY TOYZ " and the album was called " Toy Box ". The music blew me away and I jumped at the chance to see them live. After that I became a huge fan and naturally made a remix of one of the NOISY TOYZ songs, but this time I added vocals. I quite liked the result but decided to keep it to myself at the time. that was in january 2008.
It was at this point that I decided I would try and go the whole hog and produce a piece of my own from start to finish. I had borrowed a guitar from a friend and just started experimenting with it. Soon a tune started to form and lyrics came to me from nowhere. The end result... my first full and original song "LITTLE BLACK DRESS"!
