This was one of her best and I was suprised MCA had the guts to release it as a single. It should have done better, but alas this era was true R&B's last stand, and it's been all downhill since. Sadly something like this would never see the light of day as a single nowadays.

The Velvet Rope album was IT! Her best, most creative...and they got all the singles just right. They could've kept going after "Everytime", with at least 2 more.

@Naphtalionline I coldn't agree with you more. These songs were so different than what she was known for at the time, i'm glad she had the guts to fight Columbia to get them released. Unfortunately they didn't get the proper single releases they deserved, but we at least got videos for them.

Butterfly was by far her best work to date. Very creative, and she took risks with different sounds and actually had the guts to try to get them released (i.e. Breakdown and The Roof). Kudos, i miss this Mariah

Ah the glory days of Arista when Clive Davis was still running the show there. During this era, between her, Whitney, Deborah Cox, etc...Arista had R&B on lock!

I miss music like this...and damn was she beautiful. I looked her up and she has aged very well, she still looks the same 20+ years later. Black don't crack...unless your Jasmine Guy, lol.

I just wish they had let them really sing and not lip synch to the track, since this is most likely the only "reunion" of Shalamar we will ever get.

@300278265 Congratulations on finding out about Tevin. If you like this you should really check out most of the R&B of the 90's...it was really a great time to be a teenager. Music has really gone to sh!t now, and what they are serving up for ya'll nowadays is pitiful.

@hsmgeek4ever Thats why Kevon got the solo record deal. They are all good...but he was clearly the most talented of this group, and exuded the most star quality.

This was good music that was fun, and made you feel good. Wish we'd get back to this kind of music.

Lawd...she ALWAYS sung what she brung. I wish we had more like this these days. She never got the respect and success her talent warrented. I've always loved her voice and would support any project she puts out.

Was this an official single? I know there was a video for it, it used to be up on youtube. On her wikipedia page, it doesn't list this song as one of her singles...so i find that confusing since there is a video.

Once Video Soul went away, it was all downhill for real r&b...such a shame, because they celebrated and showcased REAL TALENT. It's such a shame that music is in the piss poor state it's in now.

Hearing this and seeing this makes me so glad i grew up in the age of "Video Soul" and "The Box". Back when real R&B flourished and was celebrated and given a chance. It was inventive, and creative, and chances were taken. It wasn't formulaic and by the numbers. Something like this would never be...
