Marlo revealed a chink in his armor by stating "nobody fucks with me", which was true, and a reason to turn down the invitation to the Co-Op but Prop Joe used the reason as leverage and to his advantage to "force" Marlo to join. Just my opinion, plus one of my favorite lines from Marlo!
