I believe the accident happened in the first episode called Bingo Madness of series 3 of the Charlie Drake show, as already stated the rest of the series was cancelled & he didn't work again for 2 years.

Its a great version though it wasn't played in the UK as back then any song that mentioned The Lord or God wasn't allowed unless it was a hymn. The UK version by Malcolm Vaughan had the lyrics amended.

They repeated a couple of these on channel 4 a few years ago, it was rather bizarre for its time, he would be walking down a street and would imagine dogs and cats and even pillar boxes were talking to him and he would have conversations with them.

It is the Beatles, it was recorded for a BBC radio show in early April 1964, its not an EMI studio recording, its from the Album Live at the BBC, they recorded lots of songs for the BBC that they never issued on disc.

The whole album was recorded in 10 hours and was supposed to play like a Beatles concert, all the songs were part of their stage act apart from Misery which had only been written a few weeks before.

Ex drummer Chris Curtis wasn't too happy, he claimed that they pinched the idea of releasing this Hollies track after he produced a version for Paul & Barry Ryan, Chris said he was asked to pull his version but he refused, neither were a hit.

This not the Beatles, the only available version, is a poor quality one by John Lennon, who wrote the song, strumming a guitar badly and singing badly as well, most of John's demo's are pretty dire, Paul put a lot more effort into his demos.

Frank Allen was born in Hayes !! - he got a lot of stick from fans when he replaced Tony cos he was a Londoner.

I think the fact that the Beatles had a song with the same name on the Hard Day's Night album didn't help them.

@redsfanstu The Searchers were a great group but unlike The Beatles, Stones & Hollies most of their singles were covers, Chris Curtis wrote some good tunes, though he did say 'He's got no Love' was ripped from The Stones 'The Last Time'.

@ronvonryan It is still a great song, Its difficult to judge with DC as the late Mike Smith said that Dave's contribution to the music and the recorded material was not as great as it was though to have been so maybe the name Ron Ryan is not as well known as it should be.
