You may be surprised but what really put me into guitar was the Colombo episode called Swan Song featuring Johnny Cash and his band. They're playing country tunes like I Saw the Light, Sunday Morning Coming Down and you can see Johnny play a beautiful GCD progression on his black Martin. At this moment, I decided I would play guitar myself.
After trying several techniques, I ended up playing with a straight pick and a finger pick, just like James Burton, who over the years has become my favorite guitar player.
