If you have chosen Subscriptions instead of All Activity or Recommendations, you see a lot more of your subscriptions as opposed to useless crap. I dunno if that has anything to do with anything, but thats where i found this video.

a good way to get your community members involved. And about the admin thing, I don't really like it too much, because it wouldn't be us controlling your life, it'd be a select few mainly controlling, while the rest of us have a little bit of a say in the matter.
