Even tracing needs to be practiced, so... keep trying. Also there are tons of bases you can use on the internet.

I use my DA for photographs and NON-traced pictures.
My other ones can be viewed on my photobucket. I'll send you the links in a message.
Paint Tool SAI seems to be an awesome software, but I don't have it.
Gimp is also good from what I've heard (and it's free I think).
I also use a drawing tablet since I can't draw with the mouse to save my life XD
Why I need tracing is mostly because I suck at anatomy, and if I draw without tracing lots of poses look weird. But personally I think it's ok to trace as long as I don't deny tracing. Just my point of view though.
If it's a video about one of my stories, then I draw the pictures, but there's mostly a serious amount of tracing involved.
