There is much buzz about Canadian musician Jonny Debt. The 24 year old up and coming artist made plans to meet for a drink last Monday night to discuss his newest album, - I like you.
His instinctual motion to hand me one of twelve bracelets he wore that night is a swoon worthy gesture . Spiritual, grounded with subtle sarcastic charm, he is soft spoken and kind. Glass of ice with liquid in hand, he mused about his musical start, childhood guitar , passion for song writing .
"I always wrote poetry, [and with each song] I wanted to just be genuine when your honest and fall into a creative state you cant help but speak form the sub conscious ."

When performing at parties and basements were not enough, Jonny evolved to playing at clubs, and eventually, began to hear his music when he wasn't even playing it. "People started playing my songs driving around in their cars." Hit making producer Dan Weston and jumped on board, and now, in 2011, Jonny Debt is thoroughly excited about - I like You, his third album and the direction it is going. The hazy, fluid vocals on lead single I like You is calm and heartfelt. Progressive indie rock, mellow and hopeful, he intertwines melancholy with sweet. With showcases at venues in Canada and New York, and with comparisons to the likes of The Pavement's Stephen Malkmus, and Lykke Li, Jonny has found his niche.

That sweet, incessant hum heard through the crowds is a testament to his catchy, earthy vibe. His beachy Southern California style resonates with the mellow vibes displayed on Sabrina Song -- with notes reminiscent of a camp fire sing-a-long. The vibe and vocals on Lavender borrow from a nineties hook focused rock song, while God Song is heart thumping and powerful. Forever, a smash off his second album, Apple Tree, tips its hat to the breezy echo of the band Foster the People.
