Did you make your bow? When I was a kid growing up on the Great Prairie Lands of central USA we made our bows out of a wood called Osage Orange, from a the tree that grew along the fence rows beside the farm fields.

Here in America the tradition is to seal the rabbet with boiled linseed oil, which I have used in the past. I have used Shellac too, which I learned from Hans Allback in Sweden.

In this case the sashes have been removed from the window for complete refurbishing, including deglazing, wood repairs, reglazing and painting in the shop. Each sash is painted separately. After the paint is completely dry the sashes are hung back in the window frame in the wall.

I removed the interior stop on the right side of the window, then swung in the right edge of the sash and the left edge of the sash came right out of the left tracks with the left stop and parting bead still in place.
