John Beasley

John Beasley MONK'estra EPK

2,362 views 1 year ago
John Beasley's MONK'estra is a 17-piece BIG modern jazz BAND. Beasley captures the spirit of Monk's unique quirkiness, offbeat accents, punchy dissonances, in his fresh arrangements of Monk's and other classic and original compositions.

Beasley's contemporary twist incorporates Afro-Cuban rhythms, modern jazz playing, hip hop, traditional big band instrumentation, stunningly atmospheric ensemble textures, powerfully driven by the propulsive rhythm team of bassist Rickey Minor, drummer Gary Novak, and Beasley's own melodica.

Concert Reviews:

International Review of Music: John Beasley MONK-estra Upstairs at Vitello's
By Don Heckman
Beasley's envelope-stretching arrangements, his extraordinary orchestrating abilities, imaginative soloing from players: a net result of some of the most mesmerizing big band music --individually and collectively-- of recent memory.

John Beasley "Surfacing" Vinnie Colauita, Robert Hurst Play

Vinnie Colaiuta - Drums
Robert Hurst - Bass
John Beasley - Piano

Keyboard virtuoso John Beasley has performed with Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis, and John Patitucci, and released several previous solo projects. On this acoustic jazz masterpiece, he is backed by Robert Hurst, known for his work with Branford Marsalis and the Tonight Show band, and the pure genius of drumming, Mr. Vinnie Colaiuta. The trio perform entirely instrumental compositions by Beasley, a non stop musical workout. John Beasley, piano; Robert Hurst, acoustic bass; and Vinnie Colaiuta, drums (and those drums couldn't sound any sweeter).
