Stability control makes an over or under steering vehicle into a neutral steering one at the expense of speed (since power is reduced and brakes are applied), a neutral steering vehicle can still skid into the ditch, it will just skid into the ditch with all 4 wheels equally losing traction.

Your description of the manual transmission forgot about the clutch, by disengaging the engine you can shift into a forward gear while moving backward. The clash won't happen since there is minimal resistance to the gear change.

It's important to note that it is a pressure wave which travels back to the piston, not the exhaust gasses, pressure waves travel at the speed of sound, exhaust gasses will travel notably slower. The pressure wave is originally created by the initial opening of the exhaust port.

An added note would be that the inline 6 engine is harmonically balanced so it doesn't require heavy counterweights along the crank shaft in order to run smoothly.

@GRAHAMAUS yes it is, although it may not be bottomed out, the spring still exerts a shear force on the rod end. This being said, it's a go-cart! It won't see forces large enough to cause damage, and if it does you can buy rod ends designed to take some shear.
