@vivelavidarocka No Phil had no choice but take over as a singer from Gabriel, as he had decided to leave the band. Phil brought great commercial success to Genesis.
Gabriel btw also dabbled in pop (if you want to call Phil's music pop) Sledgehammer for instance. I just don't get why Phil's music...

I remember this concert as one of the defining moments of my life: I played in a band at the time, and we were always watching the concerts from RP. All of a sudden this band comes on, with an energy and nerve that none of us had heard before. After that the goalpost shifted.
