About this user

My work crosses a number of levels of interest and debate, which is mostly centred around film. Whether its film as a medium or referencing film genres and television, what we chose to watch and the experiences we have towards the moving image fascinates me. From our desire to watch disaster films and the effects these movies have on real life disasters portrayed on the news, to why people cry when watching films and our desire to see new 'worlds' of fiction. Film has been a rich stimulus to my practice and my work plays both within and outside the medium, searching for new understandings of film.

My work over the last two years has engaged the viewer in an interactive process of making film. The audience is used in a game of actions and interactions within the video medium. This allows new strategies for experiencing and creating film. My work often incorporates radio-controlled vehicles attached with wireless cameras. These are manoeuvred by the audience, through large installations. Here the audience sees the world through the eyes of the vehicle. One of these interactive performances The Machines was created during a three-month residency at the Het Wilde Weten In Holland. The residency was a fantastic opportunity to build upon earlier performances. Here the audience voyaged through a vast crudely made film set that was subverted by low-tech video equipment. Cardboard buildings and paper shredding became vast urban wastelands and light bounced off walls like 'radioactive goo'. Size, scale and perspective are warped endlessly using various forms of illusion, altering the audience's perception of the space. I performed to the camera within the films-set, as I became both director and actor within the film. Live music accompanies these happenings as the musician both responds to, and instigates the mood of events. The footage recorded at these events is edited along with low-budget special effects to create a chapter of an ever-expanding film.
