First movement Intoduction-Choral from Suite Gothique de Léon Boellmann, (1895) recorded 07-2008.
The organ is the 1937 Casavant opus 1558 at St-Pierre-Claver church in Montreal. In it's original condition it incorporates more classical Montres and Principals for one of the first times at Casavant, but still keeping very romantic and suave 8' foot fondations, rather remarquable orchestral strings and especially heard here rather powerfull reeds, amongst them a very efficient and French Great Trompette, (used here with no sub or super couplers, the webcam was saying no ! ... since this is NOT the Full organ) a Swell higher pressure 16, 8 and 4' reed battery (of which we may hear the powerfull Bombarde 16' under all especially noticeable when the intervention is on the Swell) and Pedal rather devastating 16 and 8' reeds, although the first E flat had to be of tone here, especially for the very needed Major relative fundamental to C minor... (as the Plein-Jeu of the Positif was offtone, but anyhow) For variety I do the second Swell intervention on the Positif-Solo, which includes 3 Solo stops amongst them a high pressure String, which in 16, 8 and 4' coupling with the rest of the Positif gives a powerfull alternative to the ''other'' Swell; the tempo I use here is in fact slow (''50 à la noire'', as we may see my head counting... although the result isn't bad, when it should be ''50 à la blanche'' althought as Pierre Cochereau's 1968 interpretation I find this slower way is possible in large vessels like here and especially gives more justice and lustre to the majesty of this Introduction-Choral.
If you are wondering in fact these were webcam test-videos I did as I still though putting on for fun; listening with headphones might although be more satisfying as you will even hear the Flûte 32'.
