About Me:
Basses:
Spector NS5CRFM - This is my primary instrument, and they're becoming increasingly rare as people discover their superiority over the newer Euro LX models. Made in the late 90s, it has solid maple wings, maple neck (thru body), EMG DC-40 pickups, and an EMG BTS preamp.
Jackson Custom - The Trans-Siberian Orchestra was nice enough to have this made for me after their contest a few years ago. Alder body w/ quilted maple top, flamed maple neck (thru body), Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, Bartolini M-series pickups w/ Bartonlini 18v NTMB 5.4 A/P preamp. Abalone everything with Schaller gold hardware. Hipshot A-style bridge.
1998 Fender Roscoe Beck V - These are out of production, which is a terrible shame. I remember them from an old 1997 issue of Bass Player, and I just had to have one. I won't list all the features here, but the pickups and vast amounts of controls are what make this bass special.
Amplification:
Carvin R1000 - I've been recording and gigging with this for about 8 years now, and it's been amazing. I imagine it might be time to upgrade to one the new models, but my R1000 shows no signs of being worn out!
Carvin 10.4 Neo 4x10 - These things are amazing. Again, I've been using them for years. They can handle down to 26hz, which is lower than many subwoofers, and two of them together is sick. I'll use these as long as they'll keep making them.
Effects:
Line6 Pod Pro (rackmount) - I've only had this for a year or so, but I much prefer it to my old Korg AX1B effects processor. Everybody probably knows all about these.
Korg DTR-1000 Rackmount Tuner - Because they're the best.
Furman M-8L Power Conditioner - Because you have to.
Technical Pro DRW2U - 2-space rack drawer, because having all my instrument/speaker cables organized, and tools and extra strings all in one spot is awesome.
Other:
Strings - People ask me about this constantly. I change my strings terribly often since I've accustomed myself to the sound of new strings. We all know that old strings sound dull and bad, so you might as well change them often. I discovered long ago that I can't tell much difference between a set of brand new D'Addario strings vs a brand new set of cheap $5 Guitar Center strings, so I started buying the cheapest strings I could get my hands on, and I've done it that way for almost a decade. I'm currently using "Guitar Research" strings, which I bought in bulk from Sam Ash a couple years ago, for probably $2-$3 per set. I use Rogue brand low B and high C strings from Musician's Friend... you can buy them in packs of 3 for super cheap. My gauges, then, are 35(C)-50(G)-70(D)-85(A)-105(E)
Picks - When I use them, I use the Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm. Purple, baby.
I use only Monster Bass cables.
