A PRAYER FOR OUR WILD MUSTANGS
Now brothers and sisters, I want to get something off my chest. I'm fully aware that trying to give these animals a voice is something, which may have a strange effect on some people, but I almost feel ashamed of my efforts as my verbal skills are so limited and it is hard to find the right words.
I do admire just that, what human beings seem to have lost long time ago. The instincts and senses of these creatures are distinctive by far. We all can only divine how far. And not only where their senses are concerned. It's their mental capabilities, too. They are adaptable in a special way. Not only to adverse or rough living conditions, but also to us humans. Horses don't lie, for they show their feelings and their true colors right from the beginning. They are more trustworthy by far than humans are. Do they ever show our barbarously behavior patterns? No, they are social beings. And I dare say they are much more social and empathic than we pretend to be sometimes.
Much more than that, at times, we dare to pull them out of their familiar surroundings and break them. The responsibility lies with us to take care of these beings and their souls. We have taken away so much from them. We claimed them, broke them, used them. Even though they helped us in so many ways, they were robbed of their land. We broke their wildness and we deprived them of their freedom. I just can't stand the thought of them been herded by helicopters to finally bring them to a slaughterhouse without crying bitter tears.
Don't you see the pure fear in their eyes? And can you really ignore the drumbeat of their hearts racing with terror? Is that our way to say thank you to beings we once called our friends? Aren't they our friends anymore only because they eat "our" grass? If that's true, I'd be ashamed to belong to the human race and I'd have to ask my Creator's and Ancestors' forgiveness.
They did nothing to us. They only want to be free. Is that too much to ask? Some might think the land belongs to them, only because they paid money for it. They are so wrong. They will never own it, because the land belongs to Mother Earth and all her children. They have needs and they have feelings we can hurt. They also have great fears - rightly as I find. Due to our mere presence, we can either stir them up or even soothe them down, even perhaps heal.
The only thing left we could take from our untamed friends to finally kill their souls is their dignity. Their destiny is in our hands and they need our protection.
Don't you see our mustang friends are in danger? Don't you see we can't really break their spirit? We can only kill their bodies and souls. They are holy beings, made by the same creating power which created us as well - no matter how we may name it. They have a soul we have to treat with great respect, because one way or another, our very souls are in touch with another. And I'll never stop praying for them to survive. Let's take them under our wing to protect them because we all belong to the same family.
In love and respect to the Great Mystery, Mother Earth and our Kindred Spirits.
