Wow, a Columbia University who doesn't even reccommend getting an accurate diagnosis with good old fashioned EMG (electromylography). Don't start buying mouthguards and splints (let alone cosmetic dentistry) until you either diagnose or rule out TMD with EMG.

I've had every orthodontia, surgery to TMjoints, ears (oroplasties), nose (septum and turbinade reduction), any diagnostic and treatment totalling as much as most houses would cost. Nothing worked more than briefly (muscle relaxants or Botox, actually bad for TMD).
