Atheism -- the lack of belief in God or Gods.
Nothing more, nothing less. It's not a philosophy, not even a world view. However each Atheist has his own understanding of the world.

Science is generally accepted among Atheists as something that provides a better explanation than "God did it" -- since science works, and God has been shown again and again not to work.

God is an idea that people have. Should ideas (even the ones we hold dear) be free from questioning? What if the idea makes people do evil?
What if the idea is shielded by being called God, dogma or religion?

I think we should free ourselves from all dogma, religious or otherwise. Than we can attack all the bad ideas that harm us and embrace the ideas that are good.

Listen!
If idea is good it will withstand examination and criticism. If it's bad it'll die.
However that is not the case with faith or dogma, but it should be, just to be sure we aren't subscribing to bad ideas.
