[breeding]The male will approach the female and crawl along her back,with much jerking his back,body and and massaging with his cloacal claws.At the same time his tongue will be flickering!
Eventually he can push the rear part of his body under hers so that he can get hi cloaca into apposition with hers.]

Before selecting a carpet python to work with it is important to figure out what you want in a snake and then learn a little about the requirements of each type of carpet python. Size is certainly an important factor. The New Guinea Carpet, or Irian Jaya Carpet is the smallest type in the Morelia spilota complex and grows to a length of around five or six feet. Its small size equates to smaller caging requirements.
Carpet Pythons are considered to be a smaller type of Carpet but I have seen some very large specimens. My adults range from 6 to 8 feet long. The Jungle Carpet is well known for its dark black and rich golden yellow coloration, qualities that few wild specimens possess. Selective breeding has generated the consistently beautiful specimens that are available today. They have been crossed with Diamond Pythons and Coastal Carpets for the past thirty years. This has led hobbyists to search out "pure" Jungles. It is nearly impossible to get what one could reliably call a pure Jungle Carpet in the US and most hobbyists would be unhappy with the drab brown and tan pure animal they would have if they got what they asked for! I find the wild types to be very interesting and handsome for sure, but what most keepers interested in Jungles need to find out is if the animal they are about to buy has been selectively bred from animals whose origins are well known and have deep black and stark yellow coloration. Burmese pythons can easily reach 17 to 18 feet in length and reach weights of 200 pounds or more. It is possible for these snakes to reach 10 feet in length in their first 18 months. The largest recorded length was 26 feet.
Life span: Burmese pythons routinely live 25 years or more in captivity.
Special Note: Due to the large size and longevity of this species special care needs to be given to Burmese pythons and is not recommended for all hobbyists. Taking care of a snake this large is a long-term and often expensive commitment. This species has been known to cause death to people due to ignorance and improper handling. These snakes, like all snakes, should NOT be handled around your neck.
General appearance: Because of the abundance of specimens in captivity there are now many different color and pattern morphs available. Some of the more popular morphs that are commonly found are the albino, green, labyrinth, granite, and tiger.
Housing requirements:
Enclosure: Young Burmese pythons can temporarily live in a 20-gallon or larger aquarium until larger housing is constructed. Due to the massive size of this snake custom housing is usually the only option. Enclosures should be at least six to eight feet in length by two to four feet in width by three to four feet tall though larger enclosures are always encouraged to give the snake more room. It is not recommended to use unfinished wood, as it is hard to disinfect.
