I don't think the pipe was for pot. It looks more like the base of an opium pipe. They would put a small ball of the opium tar in the end, cooking it into smoke (not unlike crack today). And yes, just that little bit would be more than satisfying to the smoker!

@lilmamaakatrina - don't give up! Rice flour can be very forgiving. I recommend you check out cooking segments from Maangchi, she shows how to "steam" rice dough in the microwave. Hope this helps!

Hey Runny! I was in the mood for katsu the other day, but needed to use up some tofu in the fridge. With your inspiration and recipe, I made Tofu Katsu that turned out pretty decent. Thank you for all of the hard work and great cooking! JH

Have you thought about leaving the food in an enriching, but non-contact manner? You could try wrapping the food in edible packaging and burying it in a diggable area, or hanging the food so that foxes have to problem solve to get it. Just some ideas.
