About this user
Its four members have very different musical backgrounds, but once combined, the sound of the Jeff Jones Band seems like the perfect match. The music grooves, gets mellow, gets down-and-dirty, flat-out rocks, and the energy they put out on stage is off the charts. Though steeped in southern rock and blues, rather than fitting neatly into a single genre, the Jeff Jones Band traverses boundaries and traditions, constantly challenging them to reach unique musical spaces.
In 1990, at 19 years old Jeff Jones joined the military to fulfill dreams of traveling abroad. Soon after, he found himself in the middle of the Iraqi Desert during The Gulf War. When his tour was over, Jeff spent his R&R in Europe with a six string acoustic and close friends. Not long after he found himself playing more and more and working day jobs less and less.
Jeff Jones makes his words count. That's the simplest way to describe his lyrical prowess and vocal delivery. His lyrics are mature and memorable. His voice can be gentle, or gritty as hell. But that's not the only voice he uses. His guitar is directly connected to his singing, a mirror of the emotion and rhythm in the moment. He croons. He growls. His guitar follows suit.
Eric Matlock is a completely self-taught keyboardist. The result of his technique is an ear for unique and powerful phrases, hooks, and melodies. On stage he ferociously leads the band through its show-stopping improvisations. Eric has not sat down in the last two hundred shows. Instead he dances, jumps, and pounds the hell out of those keyboards. He's constantly introducing elements from current genres while staying true to the band's roots.
Nick DeNoia has studied music his whole life. He studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and has a B.A. in Music from the University of Vermont. Inspired by the live music scene in the early 90's, Nick has focused on combining his technical versatility with the passion and energy of Jam music. He always brings tremendous energy to his performances, and has the blisters to prove it.
Ray Erst is easily the most experienced musician in the band. He has performed with blues guitarist Mike Schermer (Charlie Musselwhite, Maria Muldar, Bonnie Raitt), and played "The Rockets" reunion with ex Crazy Horse members George Whitsell and Bobby Notkoff. His absolute sense of timing and confident ability to play multiple styles with ease has made him the foundation on which the band rests.
