Geeshie Wiley - Last Kind Words
Recorded circa March 1930 in Grafton, Wisconsin. Don Kent has described "Last Kind Words" as "one of the most imginatively constructed guitar arran...
@mikeman9412 According to American Primitive Volume 2 liner notes (which is very highly recommended to anyone who even vaguely likes this song) Geeshie played guitar and Elvie sang 2nd vocal on a couple songs of Geeshie's but not this one. I regard this as an extremely reliable source; the sort o...

Tripod Jimmie - Franco-America
Muscular closing song from the 1982 LP 'Long Walk Off a Short Pier', released on Do Speak Records.
Tell me this song isn't great. Go on, tell me. I dare you.

Tripod Jimmie - Mirror on the Wall
Another track from their great 1982 LP 'Long Walk Off a Short Pier', released on Do Speak Records.
If you see this record, buy this record. If you don't have a turntable, buy a turntable. This applies to everything you see by Tripod Jimmie, which is only this and 'A Warning to All Strangers'. Also the unofficial official 'Unclaimed Freight'. Note: this advise does not concern Tripod Jimmy, onl...

Grails - Space Prophet Dogon
Wonderful cover of Sun City Girls' song of the same name.
Album: The Burden of Hope (2003)
This captures the Chariots of Fire-y feel of the original. Heroic anthem with a punk rock aesthetic. An immortal with acne. Nicely done!

@libertyhopeful18 Don't give up hope. I think most people who love this record have an initial reaction of distaste or confusion but with an idea that they will someday treasure it. Keep listening, read the lyrics, read the Mike Barnes biography and listen to the vocal-less outtakes on Grow Fins....

Captain Beefheart - Big Eyed Beans From Venus
Track #11 from the album Clear Spot (1972)
@1967ax I won't argue with you on that last line. They aren't bad records, it's just that there isn't anything which sets them apart from a lot of other decent records (with the exception of his voice). The lyrics are ho-hum, and the music is so-so. I don't think anyone's life was changed by thes...

@tuftyfeedback This means you haven't heard all of Captain Beefheart. You're a lucky person. You get to hear so many great things for the first time. Listen to it all except the two Tragic Band records, 'Unconditionally Guaranteed' and 'Bluejeans and Moonbeams'. Have you heard "Dirty Blue Jean" o...

@glun So, you're saying that guitar chords played on the second and fourth beats of each measure but which obviously isn't reggae isn't "nonreggae guitar with a reggae rhythm"?
-
What more do you want? Nonreggae guitar with a reggae rhythm, screeching man/woman vocals, 'drumming' more minimal than Moe Tucker, recorder (recorder!) whistling rivaling Captain Beefheart (RIP). I love this song! I love this album!

Sun City Girls - The Imam
"Funeral Mariachi", 2010
@borbetomagus1 Move your mouse to the right and click on Space Prophet Dogon for a nice example from Torch of the Mystics. Then find Cruel and Thin from 330,003 Crossdressers... and you'll be well on your way.

Sun City Girls - The Imam
"Funeral Mariachi", 2010
This song sounds like an outtake from Torch of the Mystics. Buy this album then find TotM. If you can find it for anything less than $1000, it'll be worth it.

@rakkkhi There are no words! SCG approximates a lot of foreign tongues. Anyone can sing along.

Apna Desh - Sun City Girls
thanks WET BUTT
Check out the R. D. Burman original on youtube. Really amazing. SCG's version is a remarkably faithful cover, in spite of the lack of female vocal and horn section. Oh, and the lack of Hindi fluency.

Sun City Girls - Blue West
one of my favorite tracks from Funeral Mariachi. i do not own the rights to this
@zepkid5678 I agree with kellybranigan. 330,... is incredible. Gum Arabic is a nice compilation that will direct you to other records. The double live lp what's name I can't remember from the Torches era is good, too. It's got a naked lady kneeling on the cover. Shit, I just heard a loud explosio...

It isn't hard to find. Look on ebay. It's well worth the money. SCG put out records ranging from almost unlistenable to brilliant. This one is on the brilliant end of the spectrum.

Captain Beefheart And His Magic Band Trout Mask Replica Old Fart At Play
@smogbat50 Sorry to be such an asshole, but the line is "uh, smell cold mixed with bologna". I'd let it slide but it's such a funny line. The "uh" sounds like he's so put off by the smell.

Pere Ubu - Humor Me
Pere Ubu's Humor Me set to the art of Chagall. The live version taken from "Terminal Towers".
This is a live version. It's the flip side of 'The Fabulous Sequel (Have Shoes, Will Walk)' single. The studio version is the last song on 'Modern Dance'. I'm not sure which version is better but purchasing 'Modern Dance' and 'Terminal Tower' will get you both and better your music collection con...
