About this user
This is a band whose effect is instantly felt
This is a movement that is impossible to ignore
This is a band both sincere and genuinely alive
This is music heard once and never forgotten
These are songs you can sing; songs that will stick in your head
This is Alexis Machine
The straight forward, unpretentious, Metal of AlexisMAchine makes no apologies. The music is edgy, without being claustrophobic; serious, metaphoric and melodic without being pretty.
This is a band built on its own unique individuality and not over shadowed by the cookie-cutter rock groups that are currently cluttering the airwaves.
What music really needs these days is a powerful, organic, unpolished, in-your-face sound that says something. declares singer Alexis Machine.
This isnt just a single with a bunch of filler, like a lot of cds are today. These are songs that mean a lot to us, and hopefully will mean a lot to the people that hear it..
From the morally corrupt opener The Needle, the melodic introspection of tracks like Vampire Sight and Surreal, to the statement of purpose that is BlackDay, Alexis Machine reveals itself to be a thinking persons rock band: intense lyrics, intricate instrumentation and a very real sense that theres something important happening here.
One need only look at the albums credits to realize how self-assured Alexis Machine is. Alex Zandretta considers that aspect to be one of Alexis Machiness defining elements.
We just went about producing and recording our songs because thats what a band does. he says. Theres no producer standing there telling us how to pull it off.
Were open to working with an outside producer remarks singer Alexis Machine, but for now, weve found this to be the best way of getting our music out to the masses the way we want it. Its helped make us much tighter as a band.
That cohesion is underscored by the bands approach to songwriting, which usually evolves from jamming in the studio. With a lot of groups, one guy writes all the music. To me, thats not a band, explains Zandretta. Whats special with this group is that we are 3 guys and 1 girl who are all willing to listen to each others unique abilities, and vibe off each other.
Its a Democracy where majority rules, adds Aunty Social If someone else comes up with a better idea for a bassline or even a lyric, each member is fine with it; we all want to make the best song possible.
While Zandretta downplays the metaphorical content of his lyrics: I dont rely on specific incidents for songs, its more of capturing some emotional residue of something thats happened. He admits that such instant heavy hitters as Surreal, Fit and BlackDay all grow from the ashes of the times we live in.
Sometimes our songs sound a little negative, but we try to get across the idea and intensity of the situations.
Those feelings are confirmed by the muscular instrumention, including Zandretta's strikingly intense solo on Boys of Noise. I wanted to lay back and drop the hammer while maintaining a sense of melody and phrasing. Theres not a lot of notes there, but thats the whole idea of less is more while getting the point across. Its hard for a song to breathe when theres 5000 notes all over it.
As Alexis Machine heads into what appears to be a very promising future, the members feel secure in the approach to their art. Zandretta states, There are plenty of melodies and songs out there, but you need to be true to yourself; thats the key to longevity.
