By its very name, soul music stirs the emotional part of human nature. J Dean delivers the songs that touch what we know of life, deep feelings, thoughts and experiences. Influenced by industry legends Brian McKnight, Whitney Houston, Eric Clapton and Phil Collins, J Dean's music is a blend of R&B/Pop, and Smooth Jazz mixed and mastered to engage your ears, caress your heart and move your body. A true romantic, J Deans own lyrics are written to create intimacy between people.
A native of San Diego, California, J. Dean (born Jeffery Dean Relph), got an early taste for music from his mother who sang and played the guitar at their neighborhood church. "I remember that no matter what my mother was going through, or how hard of a day she had, she still got up and performed her best. Thats what is inspiring to me." Following in her musical footsteps, J Dean at age twelve had picked up the guitar and was singing for audiences by age sixteen.
For many years, J Dean was a member of the R&B/Pop
Group "RARE BLEND." While signed to record label Curb Records, the group appeared on the multi-platinum soundtrack of Coyote Ugly. They also appeared on the movie soundtracks for Driven, and Angel Eyes. J Dean has performed at venues as diverse as the Cox Arena, House of Blues, the Sports Arena, Humphrey's by the Bay, the Del Mar Fair and the Viejas Casino. For the past twelve years, he has also been performing at high profile private events. J Dean explains the next turn his career path, "Its the beginning of a new era for me, and Im going solo to explore the depths of my musical gift."
"My plan isnt to reinvent romance, but to add something to a persons romantic life with my music. I draw from deep conversations and experiences to write songs that are genuine." Currently in the studio recording his first solo album, J Dean remains the kind of artist who brings the same authentic warmth to the studio that he does when performing live.
