This is fantastic. You mean to tell me that the Opry had this great man in their staff band all those years, and never brought him up front to sing??? Wow - management sure missed the boat on that one! What an incredible talent, in more ways than one!!!

Jean Shepard and Connie Smith are two of the most influential ladies in Country Music. Too bad modern radio doesn't know it !!

What was it that Dolly Parton wrote in her book? "There are only three female singers.... Linda Rhonstat, Barbara Streisand, and Connie Smith! The rest of us are just pretending".

This is one of the most touching scenes I've ever witnessed in Country Music. Lorrie and Jan certainly showed their respect for this legendary lady as they discreetly came to her aid when they saw that she needed their help. They allowed her to have this final Opry moment with class and dignity.

Wow - a legendary piece of Country Music History. It's nice to know that no matter how many years go by, or who might come along in the future, Miss Kitty Wells will always be "The Undisputed Queen of Country Music".

@bryster05 Yes - Russ Hicks is fantastic - I remember him well when he worked for Connie Smith,and if memory serves me correctly he also worked for Kitty Wells & Johnny Wright for a time many years ago. Great stuff.

It doesn't get much better than this!

It's the Intro to one of her later recordings of "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels"... I think from the "Hall of Fame" Album. The song was recorded by Kitty about 3 times over the years.

It's too bad that Country Radio almost ignored this fantastic singer. She deserved, and still deserves, far better recognition.
