@skittb89 Yes, this particular mod was connected to an external mini. I do have a newer mod which uses a Sandy Bridge small form factor board and is an all-in-one, but as I was going for "a recreation" of the original G4, I did not include the touchscreen.

Mickyd - yes I have. The older mac mini will fit. However, it fits in at an angle. As such, the drive is not usable. I. Addition, the power button is not accessible. In other words, the Mac mini would have to be opened and modified. I almost went this router, but ultimately did not want to ...

Thank you very much. Unlike the 20", the 17" monitor cable and inverter can be wired to work with any DVI source. If you want to update your 17" and use it with a mac mini, you certainly can. The mod is MUCH EASIER than this one. Please see my blog for details. Just google "dremel...

The entire monitor including the housing is actually a 20" apple cinema display. Using a dremel I cut out a portion of the front of the monitor and replaced it with a 5 wire after market resistive touchscreen. To find the one I used just go to ebay and search for "20.1" resist...

Gundam, use of stand alone graphics posses some problems. To add a card that has substantially better performance than the on chip Intel 3000 has 4 obstacles. 1)Space: you would likely have to loose the optical drive. 2) Connectivity: the pcie mini on this slot is only x1 so even with an adapt...

@happymushroom100 Are you trying to convert the monitor to DVI or are you just adding a touch screen to a working iMac G4? Theis is a 4 wire 16:10 resistive touchscreen. I popened up the lcd housing and placed it in front of the monitor. I then opened up the neck and added 4 wires to hook up t...

@JTFINES - This particular mod has been disassembled for parts. I have a 20" iMac mod that uses a 5 wire resistive touchscreen. As a desktop/office computer, the touchscreen is more of a novelty than anything. However as a video jukebox, living room computer etc. it is extremely useful and a...

@JonasHamill - This is a conversion of the iMac G4 to an external monitor as a proof of concept. So you could hook it up to whatever source you wanted it to. My intention was to eventually hook this up to a mac mini. Because at the time of this video I did not own a mac mini - I wanted to get ...

@nannynicky4life -Nannynicky, thank you very much for the compliment. I have seen a mod of the g4 cube using a mini itx board, a smaller ECX board would make it even easier. For the iMac G3 there is plenty of room, but most of it is taken up by the CRT monitor. If you replace this with an LCD (I...

The most expensive components are the apple cinema display and broken 20" iMac G4. The touchscreen costs $100. You do need a soldering iron, dremel, glue, etc. But it really depends on how much you can get the monitor and iMac for - the prices on ebay vary widely.
