May I suggest that the college consults with me to arrange a concert with my friend and colleague Richard Hills, who is Internationally recognized as one of the f...

The Compton is NOT gone. Only its pipes are, which are replaceable. Of course it's a huge blow and the instrument will never be exactly the same again but it can be re-equipped with new or 2nd hand Compton pipework. The console and all the infrastructure of the organ was untouched. The irony is t...

@3dwurli Yes indeed. Hammersmith is another example and there were several others. However some were almost 'thrown' into the cinema in a hurry with no onsite regulation etc. There are even stories of one or two still being wired up as the organist is coming up on the lift for the opening night!

@goodchappy - Yes I know. So does Southampton Guildhall and Odeaon Leicester Sq. Both wonderful Comptons. But the Compton posaune is nothing like the post horn (or English post horn) that kiwiplant is referring to. The former is a smooth tromba-like stop, the latter is the snarliest brassiest lou...

@The2010SnowDay Hi. There were two large heavy lids covering the console. We only had a short time to investigate and try the organ so only took one of them off. Hence why only half is revealed and it's difficult for me to play it.
