Nighthawks at the diner

Trapped in a bubble
Somewhere in the city

Dreaming awake, no way out
Draping themselves in a cloak
Of soundless hell

There's a disused shop
Across the street
That still hasn't closed down
And the flats above it
Look deserted and cold
Full of solitude and ennui

Somewhere in this city
Under the comfort of night
Strangers communicate
By studying each other's silence

Stuck in between
A night too dark
And a light too glaring
Motionless and in limbo
They search and find
No air
Nowhere in the city.
