Norway is a country far north in Europe. It is located at the same latitude as Alaska, and some places even farther north. The mainland latitude is from 57 degrees north to 71 degrees north. The northern most point is 78 degrees north on the Svalbard archipelago.

Ny-Ålesund is the northernmost functioning permanent settlment, and is located on Svalbard. 30 people live there around the year. Honningsvåg is the northern most city in the world, located on mainland Norway at 71 degrees north. Tromsø is the northern most city with a population more than 50 000 people in the world.

Norway have one of the longest coastline total length in the world. If islands are included it stretches two and a half times around the Earth with a total length of about 103 000 km (64 400 miles).
