About this user

Janahan started to learn the Indian carnatic flute in 1992, at the age of 7. He was initially taught by his 1st guru (teacher)Sri Thayaparan for 2 years, then by Sri P Gnanavarathan. Over the next few years, he went on to take part in several concerts in Winston Churchill Hall, Logan Hall, Beck Theatre and several others.

On August 27 2001, Janahan performed his Arangetram, a solo 'graduation' concert, putting Janahan firmly on the map as one of the UK's top flutists.

Around this time, Janahan started to explore other genres of music, namely fusion (i.e. mixing eastern and western styles). He began to appreciate other instruments like piano and keyboard, which he taught himself to play, using Indian carnatic notation.

Although Janahan is working full-time in another field, he continues to pursue music as his main hobby.

In November 2009, he joined an independant band 'Priya Rhythms'.
