Imagine if Joan had the look of Callas. Then that would be a Goddess. Regardless Sutherland's voice just made me choke. Its breathtakingly beauftiful and magnificient.

She deviates from the original music score and without much feeling. Even some great pop singers put lot more religious feeling to this song. Listen to Barbara Streisand and Connie Francis. Then tune your ear to Jose Carreras' interpretation and learn how it really should be sung.

Her voice is given alot of credit due to her Queen like looks and her on stage performance. She is a beauty, but I prefer more pure classic soprano voices of Popp, Freni, Tabardi, and Ghiorgu.

I thought Pavarotti sang this well until I heard Lanza sing this in the movie "Caruso" made in 1951. He sang just few verses playing piano for Ann Blyth with a feeling that I never heard. So the medal for the best version of this wonderful song goes to Mario Lanza.

Carreras does a great job here as he does with Tosca's e Luceven les Stelle. No one can sing them as expressively and beautifully as Jose.
